Force Captures: A Valid VISA Transaction

FAQ:

Q: Does SFx have a reconciliation system that detects forced captures?

A: These kinds of transactions are not common, and the merchants that execute them should be investigated (taking into consideration these amounts, for example)

  • SFx has a complete separate flow for force captures, since Visa regards it as normal flow, during the implementation process we handled the cases in which force captures occurs. While not common, they are considered valid to Visa, and we have gotten direct confirmation from Visa that they will not turn this off. Instead, we worked with Visa to develop a protocol to follow in case of an invalid force capture. This involves what we did in this case, blocking the card and opening up the dispute. Part of the flow is also reporting the merchant.

Q: What does SFx do when we detect a forced capture? We block the affected cards, issue new ones, file disputes for all questionable transactions. We also investigate recurring merchant names and report them to Visa so they can be reviewed across the network.
